So I know I haven't updated this in a long time. Have kind of just felt in a boring daze for this entire last year. Hasn't been a rough year, just a mediocre one in many aspects. Read a Murakami book(wild sheep chase etc.) if you want to understand exactly what I am talking about. It's mainly been because my future has been flipping around in the air for several months with me just having to sit back and wait to see where it lands.

Well I am going to Fukuoka this August with JET. Although I found myself dissapointed at first because it was not the Kansai area where Mayu and many of my other friends are, I am starting to get really excited now. It is actually a really nice placement and it looks like I will be around a couple of big cities. Probably even living in a pretty populated area. Details are still up in the air.

Not really sure what me and Mayu are going to do. But right now isn't the time to worry about it since anywhere is closer than my present situation. Plus I will have the pocket change to ride the shinkansen to visit :)

Also just realized today that I am going to be ridiculously close to South Korea. Definitely plan on taking trips to there. One person told me it is probably a little over one hour and a cheap boat ticket away :o

I have to start sending out emails to my former korean students and friends soon. I am also going to consider finding a tutor to start learning Korean. I think my Japanese is to a point where I can move on to another language.

Really looking forward to a trip that me, dan, and patrick are planning also. I have always wanted to do a cross-country trip and now is finally a good time. A lot of friends I want to see along the way.

Have fun. It's absolutely impossible. Z is jump and X is shoot. R is retry when you die. Which will happen. A lot.

Oh and the only way you will be able to proceed is to go UNDER the spikes. But theres even more fun under there....

Pretty damn awesome. Robots with swords always get a thumbs up from me. Now I just need someone to build me a Gundam to use with my Wiimote.

Oh and I passed the first stage of JET! Wooo!

a sign that I play too much Lost planet
heh got a pretty interesting message over xbox live this morning. See I have been addicted to the Lost Planet multiplayer demo since it came out in november. Probably gonna be one of my favorite games of the year.

But this morning I got a message from someone that I had been quoted in his preview of the game on yahoo.

here is the link if you are interested. http://videogames.yahoo.com/gamepreview?cid=1951220563&tab=previews&page=1&eid=499004

Probably the first time I have ever been quoted ;p

This racism is killin me on the inside....
Well I am going to be leaving Kentucky in a few hours now. I'm overjoyed and somewhat sad at the same time. After hanging out with my family I just kept realizing how I have pretty much nothing in common with any of them and never want to.

It's really uncomfortable hearing your granny drop the N-bomb when talking about how a distant relative had a 'colored' baby.

One of the saddest parts is that the town hasn't changed a single bit in the 3-4 years I have been gone. It's almost like it's stuck in a time loop.

But on the other hand I got to hang out with my brother, and it just makes me so sad that he is stuck here. I want to do something to help him move down to florida or something but I dunno what to do...

    Stop motion can do anything.
Just saw this on slashdot, and for some reason I have decided to make 2 LJ posts within 24 hours of each other. That's gotta be a first.

Gotta admit that's pretty damn awesome. Even if he can't play the instruments he is still able to make music thanks to editing. Technology FTW.

    Don't Buy Sonic
Support Sonic. Don't buy his 360/PS3 game. For all that is holy and Super(Sonic) stay away from these games and show Sega that we want higher quality stuff.

    No Story.
    No skinny Eggman.
    No Shadow.
    No Humans.

Don't watch that video if you still hold good memories of Sonic. Just cherish those memories and play Sonic Spinball instead.

Want to be one of the most powerful superheroes ever?
Then make a Green Lantern ring of course!

    Go halloween ideas!!!

Now one of you engineers need to figure out a way to make a battery for these rings!! I'm looking at you santoro.

So...if you did get a ring, what would be the first thing you would materialize? A spaceship? Space station? dinosaur? Girlfriend?

Personally I guess I would make myself an uber GL Ninja suit complete with uber GL Ninja Sword and shurikens and Ninja magic. But thats just me.

    So...
So, my time in Japan is coming to it's end. I should be excited about going home, but there are a lot of things still bothering me. Not too long ago I was really looking forward to getting back, and any time I talk to any of my friends it just makes me more excited..

But, I just can't shake this feeling that I wasted my time here. I really don't know why. I went to tons of places, like Tokyo, Shikoku, Nagano, Hiroshima, Ise, the list just keeps going.

I think my biggest worry is that I don't really think my Japanese got THAT much better. My listening and everything is fine, but I just don't feel like I can communicate that much better. I think my biggest regret is that I didn't make that many Japanese friends really. It might be in part because I came here already knowing like 10 people at Kansai. That or the fact that I found it hard to find students who shared the same interests as me. The college being like 80% girls was definitely one of the reasons for this..

It's not that I didn't meet people, it's just that I didn't really meet very many people who I think I will still be talking to in 10 years...

Maybe I am just imagining this. I mean I have other things to worry about, one of which is the long distance relationship me and Mayu are being forced into. Guess I can only hope I can save up money to visit her in winter or something...

Oh well...Can't really help it I guess.

On a brighter note. Anyone have last minute gift requests? I know it is late, but I am already bringing a surplus of crap and I plan to siphon through it and decide what to give to who. But if you have a specific request, I will try to grab it.

    Super Smash Brother Brawl
Damn e3 looks crazy as hell this year. I really wish I was there.

Sucks that the Sony conference was horrid crap. I am so dissapointed in the entire thing that I am delaying the PS3 buy until MGS4 hits.

Still haven't watched the entire MS conference but did see a few videos. Everyone says theirs was great, and they seem to have delivered.

The Nintendo conference was absolutely breathtaking though. There were a few slow parts, but overall they really conveyed their message nicely. Super Mario Galaxy looks amazing, Zelda looks amazing, most of their stuff looks like so much fun. My only dissapointment was no SSB news...

    Until today...

HOLY SHIT!!! SOLID FUCKING SNAKE IN SMASH !!!! ITS OVER!!! NEXT GEN IS COMING!

    ermm...sorry..

    徹夜 are fun
So I am tired as all hell....Yesterday was a long day

I showed someone who just moved to Japan all around den den and most of downtown osaka yesterday, which was a lot of fun. He was pretty cool and I enjoy hanging out in osaka whenever I can anyway.

Then after that, around 11, I got 引っ張り出した into going to a club with JP and Mai. I am not a big club person but Paul Van Dyke was DJing so it was worth going to. I am not really big on electronic music but even I know his name, and he put on a really good show. The club itself was also one of the nicer ones I have been to. We also ran into the director of Onimusha 2 there, although I didn't really talk to him at all. Kind of hard to on a dance floor. Still pretty funny when JP noticed it was him. Japan is way too small.

Now I am coming into the last 2 weeks of classes. I have yet to start any papers or study for anything. Oh well. Time to play some DS.

    Buy okami
I just want to make a quick entry about okami.

Please, when this game is released in the states, buy it. I sat down with Patrick for a bit this last friday and played it for a few hours. I seriously can't wait to get my hands on it again. It is an absolutely amazing game.

If you don't know anything about it, or haven't seen any video, please read up on it. I am already gonna label it as one of the best games of the year.

Oh and they have an interview and some footage in the newest 1up show. Or actually This is not the 1upshow eps 2. http://the1upshow.1up.com/

The footage in there will most likely sell you on this game.

    Just wow.

    FORM BLAZING SWORD!
Haha I just ran over something interesting.

I was watching some tv with mayu when the show started talking about the old anime gatchaman or as we know it in the states, Battle of the planets.

This caused me to look it up on wikipedia and show mayu that it was shown in the states too, which surprised her a bit since it is so old.

Of course I couldn't stop there and I went to look up one of my favorite old anime, Voltron. I actually found some surprising information about it. It was changed pretty significantly for the US. Here are some of the changes listed on wiki...

    General Modifications

Shots of shooting/explicit torture (e.g. whipping) prisoners/civilians/slaves, shots of corpses removed.
Grunts being shot (as infantry) or being blown up (when in ships/fighters) were referred to as "robots", as are spacefleets.
In the case of special characters, they ejected/were rescued and taken to treat their injuries, even though they died in the Japanese series.
    Series specific changes:

    Golion:

Both shows begin with the five pilots as astronauts whose space exploration mission takes them to a planet devastated by war. In Voltron the pilots arrive on Arus during their mission, and are captured and taken to Doom. They then escape and return to Arus and become the pilots of the Robot Lions and Voltron. In Golion, the initial scenes are actually of Earth, as the pilots have returned from their mission in the year 1999 to find that the entire population of Earth has been killed in nuclear war. They are then captured and taken to Galra, where the plot proceeds similarly.

Takashi (Sven) was killed when he battled Honerva (Hagar). His younger brother Sho was the one who fought Sincline (Lotor) at the siege of Planet Garla(Doom). Sho and Sincline fell to their deaths whereas in Voltron they fell into a pool and survived.

It was a goddess not Honerva that split up Golion due to his arrogance(Golion is supposedly sentient, although this was subtly discarded in the series)

Voltron's Queen Merla arc never existed, and was created by Toei at the request of World Event Productions. The Japanese GoLion series ended with the destruction of the giant Daibarzaal(Zarkon) robot which killed him.

there are more than this on wikipedia, if you wanted to see more. just caught me as interesting how different a series it became...
